Comfort first, then everything else

Bedrooms are where carpet makes the most sense. It is the first thing underfoot in the morning and the last thing at night, it takes the chill off a tiled or concrete home in winter, and it soaks up sound in the rooms where quiet matters most. Because bedrooms see less traffic than hallways and living areas, you can choose for softness and feel ahead of toughness, which opens up the deeper plush and twist piles that would not be our first recommendation for a busy hallway.

Fibres and styles that suit a bedroom

For most bedrooms the choice comes down to a soft cut pile: a plush for a smooth, velvety surface, or a twist pile for a little more texture and fewer footprints. Solution dyed nylon brings locked in colour and the easiest clean up in kids’ rooms, triexta is inherently stain resistant and among the softest fibres we sell, and polyester is a soft, good value option for guest rooms and rentals. Loop piles work in bedrooms too, especially a fine textured wool for a warm, tailored look.

Colour, underlay and the practical bits

Lighter neutrals, warm greys and soft oatmeals make a bedroom feel larger and calmer and are the colours WA homes ask for most, while deeper tones suit a main bedroom that wants a cosier feel. Underlay matters as much as the carpet: a quality underlay adds softness, warmth and sound absorption and helps the pile last. Jupps quotes the carpet, the underlay and installation together, whether you are carpeting a single bedroom or the whole house.

FAQs

What is the best carpet for bedrooms?

A soft cut pile is the usual pick: a plush for a smooth, luxurious surface or a twist pile if you would rather not see footprints and vacuum marks. In fibre terms, solution dyed nylon is the easiest to keep clean, triexta combines softness with built in stain resistance, and a wool loop is the natural choice if you prefer a tailored, textured look. Because bedrooms are low traffic you can afford to choose for feel, and a good underlay will make any of these options softer and quieter.

Carpet or floorboards in a bedroom?

Carpet is warmer, quieter and softer underfoot, which is why it remains the first choice for bedrooms even in homes that run hard flooring everywhere else. Hard floors are easier to wipe down and some people prefer them for that reason, and a large rug can bring back some of the softness. We have written a longer comparison in our guide to carpet or floorboards for your bedroom.

How thick should bedroom carpet be?

Pile height and density both matter, and density matters more. A dense pile over a quality underlay feels deeper and softer than a tall, loosely packed pile that crushes within a year. The underlay changes how the floor feels as much as the carpet does, and our consultants will match the two. Our guide to carpet thickness explains the trade offs in more detail.

Which bedroom carpet is best for kids and pets?

Solution dyed nylon and triexta. Both resist stains and clean up with ordinary carpet cleaning, and solution dyed nylon also holds its colour against sunlight through bedroom windows. A twist pile hides marks better than a smooth plush, and cut piles are the safer choice with cats and dogs whose claws can catch in a loop. For the inevitable, see our guide to removing stains from carpet.

What does bedroom carpet cost in Perth?

The price depends on the fibre, the pile weight and density, the underlay, the size and shape of the room and whether old flooring has to come up. Rather than quote a square metre rate that leaves those things out, Jupps provides a free measure and quote that covers the carpet, underlay and installation for the rooms you want done.
