In a loop pile carpet the yarn is left as an uncut loop, so every tuft is anchored at both ends. FAQs

Loop pile or cut pile: which is better?

Loop pile is harder wearing and hides footprints and vacuum marks; cut pile (plush and twist) is softer and feels more luxurious underfoot. Loops suit stairs, hallways, studies and busy family rooms; cut piles suit bedrooms and lounges. Many homes use a loop through the traffic areas and a matching cut pile in the bedrooms. Is loop pile carpet suitable for pets?

With care. A cat or dog’s claws can catch in a loop and pull it, so for homes with pets that scratch at the carpet we usually suggest a cut pile, or a tight, low, dense loop that is harder to snag. Loops are otherwise easy to keep clean and hide pet hair well in flecked colours.

Is loop pile carpet comfortable?

Loops are firmer underfoot than a plush, but a wool loop over a good underlay is warm and pleasant, and textured and multi level loops are softer than a flat level loop. If you want the loop look with more give, choose a heavier pile weight and a thicker underlay.
