The natural benchmark

Wool is the fibre every synthetic is measured against. Each fibre is a natural spring, so a wool pile recovers from furniture and foot traffic, and the surface has a depth of colour and a soft, dry feel that synthetics imitate but do not quite match. Wool is breathable, a natural insulator in winter, naturally resistant to flame, and it is renewable and biodegradable at the end of a long life. It needs a little more care with spills than solution dyed nylon, and a good wool carpet rewards that care with decades of service.

Jupps stocks wool and wool blend carpets from Feltex, including the Stonefields, Salisbury, Spinifex, Barleystone, Berkley and 13th Beach ranges, Victoria Carpets’ Elmview and Annapurna, Quest’s Blairgowrie and EC Carpets’ Dawson Falls, along with the wool rich Kingsgate and York Street ranges for commercial projects. All but Berkley are loop piles, from fine level loops to textured and patterned constructions, in the natural, flecked and heathered tones that suit living areas, hallways, stairs and bedrooms alike, and Berkley is a soft cut pile plush in a wool rich blend. FAQs

Is wool carpet worth the extra cost?

For many homes, yes. Wool recovers from crushing better than any synthetic, holds its appearance for longer in a well cared for home, feels softer and drier underfoot and is a natural, renewable fibre. The trade off is that it is not as stain resistant as solution dyed nylon or triexta, so it suits households that will treat spills promptly.

Does wool carpet shed or pill?

New wool carpet sheds loose fibres for the first few months, which is normal and clears with regular vacuuming. Pilling is uncommon in the loop pile constructions we stock, and neither affects the life of the carpet.

Which rooms suit wool carpet?

Living rooms, bedrooms, hallways and stairs all suit wool, and textured wool loops are among the most hard wearing carpets we sell. We would steer you towards solution dyed nylon or triexta in a playroom, a media room or anywhere spills are a daily event.
