Herringbone and chevron floors turn the floor itself into the feature. Short boards laid in a zigzag, with square ends for herringbone or angled ends for chevron, create the crafted European look that has come back into Australian homes, hallways and entries in a big way. Modern vinyl plank and hybrid versions give you the pattern without the cost and care of traditional parquetry.

Jupps stocks herringbone formats in luxury vinyl plank, led by Godfrey Hirst Olympus Parquet in a 590mm x 118mm direct stick board, along with herringbone patterned sheet vinyl for larger commercial and hospitality floors. Because the pattern relies on precise cutting and layout, these floors are installed by our own experienced installers, and we will talk through the direction of the pattern on site before the first board goes down.

FAQs
What is the difference between herringbone and chevron?
Herringbone uses rectangular boards with square ends, laid at 90 degrees to each other so the pattern steps like a zigzag staircase. Chevron boards are cut at an angle at each end so they meet in a continuous point, creating a clean V down the room. Herringbone is the more traditional and forgiving of the two.
Does a herringbone floor cost more to install?
Yes. Laying the pattern takes more time and precision than straight planks and produces more cutting waste, so installation is priced accordingly. Jupps builds this into the measure and quote so there are no surprises.
Which rooms suit herringbone flooring?
Entries, hallways, dining rooms and living rooms where the floor is on show. In a kitchen or laundry choose a vinyl plank version for its water resistance, and in a long hallway run the pattern down the length of the space.
